Also, there are some lovely images and a review of the installation on the ABC pool site. Pool user pry says:
... a stunning, sophisticated installation/exhibition that melds diffused layers of sounds and images, yet enables the viewer/listener to inhabit their own private space to focus on particular monthly works. Every aspect of the exhibition, sound, image and space relate and work beautifully as a cohesive whole...

Article and excerpt from online review of Vieux Carré
"...to set the scene and enhance atmosphere in this particular production, fabulous blues guitar is beautifully rendered by Bob McGowan and cleverly and crisply piped into the auditorium. Impressive sound design throughout is by Nat Grant."
Stage Whispers
January 2013
I'm involved in lots of exciting things at the moment. Firstly, I completed my yearlong composition, Momentum, on December 31 with a live to air on Melbourne radio PBS with Evan Carr. Evan contributed some live tape samples to the mix as well - the entire interview can be heard here.
My good friend and collaborator Steve Uccello recently released an album with Welsh guitarist David Cooper Orton. Created in much the same way as the album Steve and I released in 2009, Warp and Weft also features me on the track Around the Fire.
Also, I'm currently working on the sound design for a play: Itch Productions' version of Tennessee Williams' Vieux Carré. This show will run from January 17 to February 3 and 45 Downstairs as part of the Midsumma Festival. I'm collaborating with blues guitarist Bob McGowan to combine traditional blues with contemporary digital technology, and it might sound something like this:
Tickets and more info here.
Lastly, Sydney based sound artist Matt Wakeling is undertaking a month-long recording project inspired by my Momentum Project. Matt will record a short piece of music every day in January and has called for contributions. On January 11 he included a sound that I sent, of dancing wire coat hangers, alongside his prepared guitar.
December 2012
I was lucky enough to be interviewed about Momentum by Radio National's Andrew Ford on The Music Show on December 1st. I talked about my experiences of recording everyday, and the wonderful interactions and collaborations this project has allowed me. Andrew played a few excerpts from throughout the year, and I gave a bit of a blow by blow account of creating the mix for November 30 (day 335). The audio and more details are available here.
All the daily mixes from my Momentum Project are slowly making their way onto my bandcamp site. All the daily and monthly mixes will still be posted on soundcloud, but the bandcamp site allows me to create an album for each month, and is a bit easier to navigate.
I'm working on a new composition, to be premiered at this years Melbourne Fringe Festival. The piece is called Cocoon, and is a guided improvisation for Miranda Hill's 3 Shades Black ensemble. The event, an acoustic surround sound experience called Immersion, is on at 8pm, October 10 and 12, in Footscray - more details here.
Two tracks from my Momentum Project were approved to be played as part of a water-themed exhibition at the Contemporary and Modern Art Museum of Trento and Rovereto, Italy, on the 1st of June, 2012. The aim of the exhibition was to divulge informations on water-saving activites. Artists were invited to upload or share water-related audio on SoundCloud. All relevant works were performed on the "Notte Verde" night under the dome at the entrance of the museum.
I've been so caught up with my blog project that I haven't performed much this year. I will, however, be performing a solo set, and also with my good friend Anna Morley at the Wesley Anne, on Friday 18th May at 8pm.
Whilst on tour last year, I recorded an eleven minute improvisation using eleven different instruments, in my hotel room in Indianapolis, for this compilation by Loopers Delight.
There are 15 tracks in total, each by a different artist, each utilising the number 11 in different ways. My track can be found here.
The past couple of years have been incredibly fruitful in terms of collaboration, both real life and online. The newest online project I've been involved with is a tri-continental percussion recording project, with Noah Demland from Ohio, and Australian born, Swedish based Charles Martin. This is our first collaborative track, comprising of sounds created by me, sent to Noah to add percussion and finally Charles for vibraphone.
Nat+noah+charles by Charles MartinA new re-mix/mash up including one of the tracks from my Momentum Project thanks to Sydney sound artist Frank Dodds. He found my work via POOL, the ABC's social media site. It's a great place to share creative work and find artists to collaborate with; anyone can join and upload work in audio/visual form.
